The new child of the Estate is located on the northern bank, neighbouring the Grand Cru « Les Preuses ». Located in what is the vastest Chablis Premier Crus was a fork (fourche) in the road, explaining perhaps this area’s toponymic origins. Another explanation could be that it was named after the gallows, (also known as the fourches à hommes in French) used to hang thieves. In fact, isn’t one of Fourchaumes’s place names called « L’homme mort » (The Dead Man)?
Behind a golden robe, aromas of the green of vetiver and sandalwood come forth. Its fresh attack leaves a succulent imprint on the finish taut with the Kimmeridgien terroir. The spirit of the place is also present in its body.
Yet again, the terroir prevailed over the year. This Fourchaume, the eldest son of the vineyard, shows off a shiny robe, as if embroidered with gold. Its perfume evokes lime zest and Reunion turmeric. On the palate, its maturity lays down the law. After drawn out seconds, the salinity of the soil emerges. It is a select wine that all connoisseurs should have in their cellar.
The famous Fourchaume, emblematic terroir of the right bank, is wrapped in notes of sweet pollen with a touch of lemon zest. Dense, even intense this wine’s strong nature, stemming from its kimmeridgian origins, will outline the mouth with its chalky relief. Already delicious, it will know how to slumber in a cellar.
Behind a golden robe that flirts with green foliage is the fresh surprise of orange zest. Its initial has a vigorous acidity that is superseded by the ripeness of fruit giving this wine a round, fleshy dimension. Its lengthy finish evokes its Premier Cru roots.
